Speaking of which, you are quite right that Kafka has a lot of explaning to do for Mina. It takes weeks though, thanks to both of them being very busy at the moment. Her with her duties as a Captain of the Third Division. And Kafka trying to raise his charges as best as he can without revealing the Hibino family secret.

But that is fine as what Mina ends up learing needs some time to really digest for her to understand what is going on. Not to mention there are some things he can't tell here when it comes to the two Shinomiyas. Theres going to be a lot of sorries, some tears, a few shouting matches and a all around awkwardness around those two until it is all explained. And renewed promise between them is made too.

Which not only result in Mina coming over to visit from time to time and once again reignite their friendship again, but also becoming an aunt for Reno and Kikoru. And another womanly role modle for Kikoru. Bakko on the other hand is just very confused about it all, especially since he can't understand why they have to visit a certain himbo who clearly smells of kaiju but his master seems to be friends with. He doesn't mind the kids too much but Kafka certainly has the tiger weary.

Soshiro and Okonogi would also become part of the family too thanks through some shenanigans that me and my sisters are still planing. Those two will become good teacher for the kids, even if Soshiro has the bad habbit of being a bit annoying at times.

And your right that Kafka's parental kaiju instinct are going to flare up from time to time. Sometimes Kafka would make nests, purr or make some other odd noise and do a wide varity of other parental kaiju habits when the kids had a bad day.

Though said parental kaiju instinct would also come quite handy as well since Kafka isn't the only troublemaker among the family of three. Both Reno and Kikoru have their own blend of chaos and trouble that Kafka is sometimes greatful for these instincts of his.

The kids on the other hand? They just see this as some weird mother-hen like behavior since neither Tabiki, Hina or Mina sees it as odd. Boy were they surpised when they got to know the truth.

Tiny would indeed made things worse had he gotten Kafka eariler thats for sure. Our himbo would have stuggled a lot more to hide these aspects from the kids. Not to mention landed in a lot of trouble a lot sooner too.

Good thing Bakko can't talk and Soshiro nor Mina don't have their suits on or they would've noticed the kaiju smell. Scruffing is probably a behavior our himbo tries not to indulge in as the kaiju inside would do it similar to a tiger i.e carry via teeth. He definitely did the gravity bit from Lilo and Stitch though since some behaviors, like lying on misbehaving whelp, are easier to conceal under the joke method.

If Tiny had gotten Kafka earlier, I would just see his instincts causing parts of his kaiju body to partially manifest on a strong enough impulse. Flare ups that are harder to handle since his human side can't handle it's more potent opposite. I mean them learning the truth on Kafka's odd behavior would obviously be mind-blowing.

They were being cared for by a kaiju hybrid, something that many would think was impossible.

Honestly I don't really know.

It's probably the fact that all the other vampires you listed were either sophisticated (and in byakuya and Celeste's case [although the latter is faking] seem to see it as the natural evolution of humanity) or they were super violent (and in Mondo's case, this was the reason for becoming a vampire)

There's just something appealing about, among these geniuses and psychopaths, there just being an average Joe who got turned, and he just continues going about his daily life.

He doesn't gain any grand ambitions, no new sense of self superiority, no new violent tendencies. Just this generic, albeit rather persuasive, guy who just acts like nothing has changed.

At most he spends a week somewhat giddily checking out his new found abilities while he learns to adjust to his new found strength. But then the brief excitement quickly wares off and suddenly everything is back to business as usual.

After all, as he regularly says himself, one of makoto's best traits is him being rather gung-ho and easy going as well as his ability to be optimistic in any situation.

But yeah, just this small coven of 2 overly confident badasses and a psychotic killer, and then there's just makoto. The ultimate generic protagonist who is also apparently the glue keeping the coven together (much to the confusion of outsiders)

Makoto doesn't even realise he's in a coven. He's just there to hang out with his friends to escape the stress of being future foundations poster boy

I think part of the appeal to me is also the mental image of everyone helping him through the sudden change (even if he was rather quick to accept it.) Because I like wholesome scenes like that. Even a year or so later, he occasionally uses too much strength when doing a simple task (such as getting someone a glass of water). He was banned from touching anything made of porcelain or glass for at least a month

Also I imagine it took longer than normal for him to awaken after being turned (leading to panic amongst the other survivors who worry they were too late and it didn't work) and he was very groggy and out of it for about a day after he did wake up (almost like he was sleepwalking or when someone's just woken up but not fully and could fall back asleep at any second)

then kirigiri, byakuya and Hina took turns keeping an eye on him until he properly regained consciousness. As for why Toko and Hiro didn't, Toko was too paranoid to help and Hiro couldn't be trusted to not do something stupid while watching over him (also given his free time events in the game, he also couldn't be trusted to not try and make a profit off of him)

Also after makoto is turned, Hiro 100% thinks he's somehow become some kind of double vampire (no he doesn't know how that works either, and the others have all given up on trying to figure out what he means) however Hina, as the smarter of the 2, realises that makoto wasn't actually a vampire and feels embarrassed and apologetic for falsely accusing him all these years

Unfortunately, despite his idea being completely stupid, they can't actually prove Hiro wrong because makoto actually can digest human food (just very inefficiently) and every time they try to explain to hiro, he just mentions what kirigiri said. Leading them all back to square one in the argument. They stop trying to explain after the 4th attempt

Also yes, I agree, makoto would definitely just walk around with his hoodie up to protect him from the sun. Usually he keeps his hands in his pockets to protect them, but he also keeps a pair of gloves to protect his hands in case he needs to use his hands while in the sun. At Hina's suggestion, he also keeps a face mask and a hat on him for similar reasons but he uses them way less often.

Hina: 'hey makoto, why do you never wear that hat and mask I gave you? Wouldn't it do a better job of protecting you than just your hood?'

Makoto: 'it just makes me feel too much like a celebrity hiding from the paparazzi. It's uncomfortable'

Hina: 'i hate to break it to you, but you're famous as the ultimate hope, doesn't that make you a celeb...'

Makoto, putting a finger over her mouth: 'I've been denying that fact since we joined future foundation and I'd like to keep it that way'

That's a really thoughtful answer! I truly appreciate your interest in this AU of mine and your attention to its details. Your insights are inspiring.

An average joe among geniuses and psychopaths. That's just how Makoto already is in Danganronpa, huh? One could argue, though, that him being warm would only enhance that theme. He lacks all the abilities that make vampires feel superior to humans, including the keen intellect and super perception prized by the likes of Byakuya and Kyoko. But he's still the one who solved every murder mystery, identified the mastermind, and saved all their skins. Of course, he could always choose to turn on his own volition long after the events of the games ...

Although I'm pretty content with my interpretations for this. AU so far, you make a solid point in noting that my choices for vampirized characters don't exactly lean positive. I literally made Toko half-vampire and put the vampire half on her evil side. Even the sweet Sayaka ends up luring a warm boy with the goal of overpowering and killing him. Not a good look, especially when AD takes pains to note that vampires run the moral gamut just as much as the warm.

Among the survivors, Toko has firmly Jekyll-and-Hyde'd herself. Byakuya abandoned his humanity long ago. Maybe Kyoko is a genuine teen sleuth from Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys times and shed her touchy-feely side decades ago to better deal with the cold hard facts of murder cases. Makoto turning would remedy my problem not simply be default, but because he can show his friends that being a vampire doesn't require losing touch with one's emotions or empathy, just by being his normal silly self.

Hey, isn't there already a point in THH where Makoto lies bedridden on the cusp of life and death, with a mysterious dark figure and Kyoko looming over him at different points of a long and feverish night? Oh snap, what if Junko gets fed up with this warm kid's interference and tries to drain him, only for Kyoko to save him by turning him?! The idea would need more brainstorming, but it's a start ...

Anyway, I'll definitely keep your observation in mind as I work on the SDR2 installment (which is already in progress!).

I think we as a community need to write Tsugumi as a little more of a freak. I don't mean in a super obvious loud way, but in a they seem super normal up until they ask for an eraser and you hand them one and they just eat it whole and then move onward like nothing happened and you're not even sure if it did since it passed by so fast

how tokyorev 253 spoilers caused me to connect the whole anime to a french mathematician

good morning class. /j

i wont be using as many fancy charts in this as my last theory? analysis? post? (just kidding i did)

i’m gonna type this up very quickly i hope it’s digestible. i like making these to point things out and help you form an educated opinion on things.

if you haven’t seen the 253 spoilers

take some appropriate music for this journey as well:

i. the trolley problem

this whole idea started when in the chapter it shows everyone about to get hit by a bus in a vision and takemichi looking up at mikey who looks as close to Bonten Mikey as we’ve seen him in a while. (not in that order, i don’t think)

if you know about thought experiments you know where i’m going with this.

“The trolley problem is a thought experiment in ethics about a fictional scenario in which an onlooker has the choice to save 5 people in danger of being hit by a trolley, by diverting the trolley to kill just 1 person.”

takemichi is in a literal trolley problem. he can see his friends will die if he doesn’t do something, but he knows mikey will fall into darkness if he doesn’t continue to go to him. 

after seeing the trolley problem, i decided to look at other thought experiments or concepts in that general area. 

ii. maxwell’s demon

-”maxwell's demon is a thought experiment that would hypothetically violate the second law of thermodynamics.”

-”the second law of thermodynamics means hot things always cool unless you do something to stop them. It expresses a fundamental and simple truth about the universe: that disorder, characterised as a quantity known as entropy, always increases”

-”in the maxwells demon thought experiment, a demon controls a small massless door between two chambers of gas. As individual gas molecules (or atoms) approach the door, the demon quickly opens and closes the door to allow only fast-moving molecules to pass through in one direction, and only slow-moving molecules to pass through in the other. Because the kinetic temperature of a gas depends on the velocities of its constituent molecules, the demon's actions cause one chamber to warm up and the other to cool down.”

i was talking to one of my best friends about the spoilers and they were mentioning takemichi dying, and my instant thought was; well maybe, but the world sort of revolves around him.

besides being the main character, things don’t really just happen to him- he changes things, he actively makes the choices when presented with them, altering the future (reality) and then is faced with the consequences of those choices.

in maxwells demon, there is a demon with a lever that opens a door between two chambers of gas. the demon every once and a while opens it to let certain atoms flow into one side or the other.

takemichi is like the demon, although his character is far from one i love him to death- but in the thought experiment- he is like the demon opening a door over and over each time he goes back in time and then more and more people get involved in his time traveling (or are saved and less involved like kazutora or at this point- hina)

iii. laplace

another concept i fell into trying to figure it all out is laplace’s demon. a different demon than maxwell’s and much more powerful (from what i’ve gathered, physicists, mathematicians don’t @ me in the replies)

“Laplace's Demon is described as an intellect that would be able to know all past and future events if it knew the positions and velocities of all atoms in the Universe”

tldr; laplace’s demon is an all seeing demon who knows everyone’s past and future (we’ll circle back to this)

the french mathematician i mentioned in the title is pierre-simon laplace- his work was important to the development of engineering, philosophy, statistics, physics, astronomy and of course mathematics. 

laplace’s demon is said to be a good example of nomological determinism (the idea that things happen due to an event prior, aka: things don’t happen based on chance, aka: cause and effect.) 

iv. so lets talk determinism 

when it comes to time travel there are a few ways to deal with the concept- 

indeterminism (it’s all up to chance baby!) 

determinism (past event triggered present outcome, we gotta fix it)

fatalism (a type of determinism, except it involves the idea of fate).

theres actually many types beyond these but when it comes to time travel in media- those are the most common.

the overarching story of most time travel works, including tokyorev is something along the lines of determinism (probably).

takemichi in the future researches with naoto to find out what event could have caused it to ‘go wrong’. thus theres the assumption changing that event would change the future.

daddy laplace created the concept of scientific determinism. basically the concept you can determine things based on science, probability (another speciality of daddy laplace), ect.

“An intellect which at a certain moment would know all forces that set nature in motion, and all positions of all items of which nature is composed, if this intellect were also vast enough to submit these data to analysis, it would embrace in a single formula the movements of the greatest bodies of the universe and those of the tiniest atom; for such an intellect nothing would be uncertain and the future just like the past would be present before its eyes” -Laplace, 1820

v. dark impulses and black holes

i’m just gonna say this right now, this is a stretch- although this whole post is just connections, i’m not exactly trying to prove anything BUT

daddy laplace (that is his name now, that’s what we’re gonna call him) also studied black holes. though his big theory about space was the nebular hypothesis of laplace, which was about how the solar system was created (and was tragically inaccurate) 

“Laplace also came close to propounding the concept of the black hole. He suggested that there could be massive stars whose gravity is so great that not even light could escape from their surface (see escape velocity). However, this insight was so far ahead of its time that it played no role in the history of scientific development.

black holes could be compared to dark impulses. seeing as:

black holes will eat (suck in) anything, it’s indeterminate- just like characters w/ dark impulses

they’re very strong (obviously)

they’re made by massive stars that collapse. (every character that has dark impulses, if i remember correctly) is like a big name for something: they burned too bright.

time moves differently around black holes. people say you can ‘time travel’ near them- but its moreso you’re slowing down and everyone else is going normal speed thus you’d go to the future faster(?)

when two black holes collide (think south and mikey maybe) they become a bigger black hole and its extremely violent.

to add onto this though, laplace formed a theory on astronomical stability, stating how: 

  “Laplace concluded that any two planets and the Sun must be in mutual equilibrium and thereby launched his work on the stability of the Solar System “

wakui has been using a ton of yinyang, equilibrium concepts in tokyorev. even possibly the idea that- to save one person other people die.

vi. laplace’s equation

 “In general, Laplace's equation describes situations of equilibrium, or those that do not depend explicitly on time.”

*coughs* that sounds kinda soulmate like to me, but i digress

this took me A WHILE to understand, but laplace’s equation basically boils down to harmonic motion (which also ties into quantum physics, quantum mechanics, but thats not the point of this) harmonic motion is (for dummies) a type of motion that is equal and goes on indefinitely.

as i said above, wakui’s been using yinyang, equilibrium- all that stuff.

i see the possibility of mikey/takemichi, koko/inui, all types of relationships in tokyorev being like harmonic motion- equal and going on independent of time (which makes more sense because of time travel).

vii. tldr

basically a lot of laplace’s theories possibly line up with tokyo revengers:

laplace’s equation: harmonic motion, equals

black holes, if you squint: dark impulses

maxwell’s demon: takemichi time traveling

if they all match up, is there a laplace’s demon too? is there a bigger power over it all.

SPOILERS THROUGH TR278!

I've been trying to digest the fact that in the final timeline Kisaki is supposedly not obsessive and violent anymore, so I came up with a theory that attempts to understand it.

I want to preface this with the obvious fact that having friends (particularly Takemichi) at a young age certainly benefited him, but it didn't feel like a complete explanation for how we went from a main antagonist to a silly little guy who's just a bit blunt sometimes. If he wasn't going to be obsessive and violent about Hina and Takemichi I would have guessed he'd become obsessive and violent about something/someone else.

We don't really know much about the final timeline, which is a bit frustrating, but what we do know is that in addition to Takemichi befriending Kisaki, Shinichiro lives.

So here's my theory: Kisaki was affected by Shinichiro's curse in the main timeline of the series. Since the curse and dark impulses weren't explained too precisely I can only speculate, but it seems that people near Shinichiro close to his time of death were affected. First, we have Mikey, who Shinichiro saved in exchange for the curse. Then, we have Kazutora, who was controlled by the dark impulses to karmically kill Shinichiro soon after he transferred his power to Takemichi.

Now, obviously we know Kisaki isn't someone who's even remotely impulsive (except for maybe when he has Hina and Takemichi killed, but even that would be a big stretch to call it impulsive), but maybe the darkness of the curse, not the impulsivity, manifested in Kisaki somehow, since his and Shinichiro's paths crossed on the day he met Takemichi. As Mikey says, the curse "affected everyone around him".

I think that Kisaki, already vulnerable to darkness due to his loneliness, became further corrupted by Shinichiro's curse. And on some level, I think he knew this, as there are a few hints.

Kisaki refers to himself as being a "supposed dark hero" in the Tenjiku battle. This always intrigued me because it's the only time he uses this term. He only ever refers to Takemichi as "hero", and in the Picaresque chapter, he says "I will never be the main hero". I can't say if he knew of any curse, but he realized that there was a darkness in himself that prevented him from being a "good" hero.

Additionally, we can recall that he called himself "the shadow that Toman casts". He says this because he's been given permission to "guide Mikey's darkness", but he also speaks quite similarly to Osanai before he even meets Mikey, when he says "the moon can't shine on its own". When he says this, he is referring to the fact that the shining moon must cast a shadow, a darkness, and that he is willing to be that darkness for Osanai. He uses the exact same metaphor for himself and Mikey later on.

This is important because it demonstrates that he didn't need Mikey to ask him to guide his darkness. Kisaki already embraced the role of the dark shadow by then.

When Mikey fires Kisaki, Kisaki doesn't only speak of his darkness just to appeal to Mikey, it's part of his character as a whole, and it's a running theme for him, just as it was for Mikey.

The metaphor and choice of the word "darkness" are reminiscent of the way Mikey describes a darkness in himself, and Kisaki speaking in this way prior to meeting Mikey is indicative of the fact that he already had a similar darkness inside of him. I think this was a deliberate choice made by the author, and not only for the sake of general character comparison.

I don't know if Kisaki would have known about a curse, especially because we don't even know how he knew about time leaping, but that's secondary to the fact that he knew he had a darkness regardless of how that came to be. And with the curse avoided and Takemichi befriending Kisaki, the sources of his loneliness and darkness were gone.

Of course, if Kisaki was affected by the curse, it begs the question why other characters were not (ie, Baji, Hinata), and honestly, I don't have a clue why that would be, so this weakens my theory a lot.

Nevertheless, in the new timeline where Shinichiro is alive, Mikey and Kazutora don't act with the same dark impulsivity as in the other timelines, and Kisaki isn't obsessive and violent. I found it hard to accept that Kisaki was so changed because we don't know the full story, and I wish I knew more, but I think this theory does an okay job at beginning to explain how he operates as a character. If the curse really did affect him, then you could say that he really was the shadow cast by Mikey, since the curse was born from saving him.

Ryoma x Reader (Ultimate Beach babe)

“AY~!” You sang enthusiastically while dancing on stage, “Goooooood MORNING EVERYBODY~! Welcome to the beach party starred by myself and my monokubs. Monokuma wishes he had their loyalty but I as a good mother shall let them watch and have fun while you all have your fun as well. Sadly he is our host so be prepared to fight and attack some baddies okie~?”

Not the reaction everyone expected from them but Rantaro immediately walked ahead with Sayaka and Kotoko then they watched everyone get into their stands and start helping out. While (Y/N) walked around they noticed Ryoma passing out balloons to everyone, “Ooooo side job?”

“Yea, since ya know Tennis can be a bit mentally draining I like to give out balloons.” Mikan happily hugged her Monokuma balloon then walks off, “Freeby for her?” He nods. “She’s a bit skittish and well the nervous type so I helped her out.”

(Y/N) grins, “Okay. Wanna go check out Teruteru’s food buffet?” He hopped over the stand then grabbed their hand. “Let’s go.”

While they walked towards the food stands they spot Kokichi cutting something. “…..Isnt that-“ he shushes (Y/N), “Don’t ask don’t tell.” Kokichi laughed mischievously whilst running off. “That was Rantaro’s swim jacket…” Ryoma laughed, “Not anymore.”

Once they got to the location they noticed Kirumi, Teruteru and Taka having a discussion on what big breakfast to make. “I saw we have a waffle platter- with a touch of eggs and some pancakes. Maybe even bowls of fruit.”

“No no, some oatmeal. Everyone will be filled, a friend of mine’s oatmeal usually has a nice taste to it with a touch of cinnamon, butter and some nice heat!” Teruteru chuckles, “I have just the idea. Waffle and oatmeal buffet, as for the healthy approach we shall add fruit bowls of everyone’s desire. Making a billboard will be up to Taka and Kirumi’s stigma but let’s also get Twogami involved as well.” Suddenly they all turn towards Ryoma and (Y/N). “TASTE TESTERS!!”

Which now leads up to them happily feeding Ryoma whilst they fed themselves. “Delicious!” He hums, “Nice, with a touch of butter- milk and cinnamon like Taka said..” they suddenly squish his face. “You want me to make you that?”

“No thanks babe….I’d much rather have your delicious pancakes honestly.” (Y/N) chuckles softly, “I’ll make both.”

After eating and letting the food digest, nap time to be exact: (Y/N) went to the beach. “ALRIGHTYYY LADIES!!” Hina and Akane quirk eyebrows whilst Sakura sets them down. “Let’s show these boys who rule this world.” Mikan clapped, “Yay!”

Ryoma and Celeste immediately panic. “Wait wait-“ Gonta lifts you and Tenko up, Akane does the same with Sonia and Mikan then Sakura lifts Hina and Sayaka. “Ladies and gents boys and girls witness the amazing beach babe special!!”

Ibuki yelled and splashed in the water, Sonia followed then she laughs while Souda yelled with Kaito. “Guys quit moving! You’ll get me wet!” Maki grumbled.

“I’LL BE SURE TO FINISH THE JOB!” (Y/N) gasps, “SYO NO!!!” Ryoma sighs. “I’ve seen enough.” Suddenly he felt (Y/N) hug him, “Where are you going?”

“I’m trying to escape before I get dragged into the madness.” Silence, then he felt himself get carried and his feet touch the water. “This is practically cat abuse.”

“You’re not a cat though..” he closed his eyes. “This man is now, imma take a cat nap.” (Y/N) laughed a bit. “Okay Ultimate Balloon maker.”

Hololive / Nijisanji Cover Digest for August

5th - Phony by Machita Chima

The final product of Chima’s journey. Her operatic background meant that she would search for more operatic of the popular songs, but I think she does this very modern song justice.

7th - Kaibutsu by Shiranui Flare

The MV is on fire and her singing is always on fire. That’s Flare for ya. Flare always can bring a little menace, a little bit of S for Noel’s M needs, and this cover brings that in spades.

7th - The Owl ~The Owl Tells That We Have Uninvited Guests~ by Nun Bora

Bora always has a nice voice, because apparently that’s a requirement for being good at APEX (why is everyone at VSpo good at singing?) and this song is uses her voice very well.

11th - Haru wo Tsugeru by Rikkaroid

Start of Rikka’s First Take tribute and he starts with one of my favorite songs, the first single by yama. And Rikka doesn’t disappoint with his interpretation. He’s just so nice to listen to.

12th - Blessing by Lamy, Botan, Nene, Polka

NePoLaBo stands out as the best gen group in terms of singing, and this distinction is best shown through the four group covers for their anniversary. All four are fantastic, go listen.

13th - ZZZ by Asuka Hina

For her much belated 100K. It’s a cutesy cover for a cutesy voice producer, I believe?

13th - Cry Baby by Hoshimati Suisei

Suisei needs a song with power and emotion and Official Hige DANdism went out of their way to create a song that does just that. Suisei is at its best when she starts down low and raises her pitch like a firework, and this song is basically that.

15th - Vampire by Yozora Mel

I really like Mel’s voice. It’s cute but not cutesy. Like Kiara, her voice fits the range of VOCALOIDs, but Mel’s delivery is much more smooth. It’s almost like listening to the Idea of this song, the most idealized version, and so this is my pick for Vampire. Thank you.

17th - Indonesian Folk Medley by HoloID 1 & 2

I think what makes this cover so special is that you can feel the pride and joy in the singers and the production. This is their introduction to their world to us, and it is freaking great.
